If you are upgrading through a proxy server, you first need to upgrade the version of Rational Product Updater (RPU) from version 6.0 to a later version. RPU version 6.0 is not aware of proxies. For example, the following error might occur if you are attempting to update RPU or any of the Rational Software Development Platform products when behind a firewall with no proxy settings defined: Invalid update site url for IBM Rational Application Developer: Upgrading to RPU version 6.0.1 provides support for using a proxy server. Download the RPU update 6.0.1 and follow the instructions for local installation. It is important to note that before you perform a local installation of RPU 6.0.1 you must edit its policy.xml file with the path to where you extracted the update zip. It is clearly marked in the policy.xml file where you need to do this. After you complete the RPU update, you can see a menu item in RUP under 'Preferences' for setting proxy values. When you have updated to RPU version 6.0.1, you can then apply the RAD 6.0.1.1 update. The RAD update is quite large, so installing it over the Internet can take a long time and has the potential of failing. For these reasons, it is recommended that you download the update to your machine and perform a local installation. • The file called rad60_6011.zip contains the update you should use if you are starting from RAD 6.0 and upgrading to 6.0.1.1. • The file called rad60_6011_post601.zip contains the update you should use if you are starting from RAD 6.0.1 and upgrading to 6.0.1.1. Once you have applied the RAD 6.0.1.1 update, you can then apply smaller updates or interim fixes such as iFix 001 from the Internet, with no problems.
